CEP 820 Teaching K-12 Students Online
The focus of this course was to create an online learning experience in our individual contexts. I chose to create a hybrid unit on the Constitution for my Civics class using Moodle.
Moodle Course
Moodle guest access is being finicky, but feel free to use the following log-in to see my site:
User-name: mhosbach
Password: Civics1!
This screen-shot shows the main page of my Moodle course. It contains a topic outline which lists the different topics, in the order in which they should be completed, as well as a list of tasks for each topic. Also included on the main page are external links to resources such as an RSS feed called "Latest News on the Constitution" so my students have instant access to how the Constitution is being applied in today's society.
Moodle (and other online Course Management Systems) are not only great resources to use in the face-to-face classroom setting, but facilitate all kinds of distance learning as well.
A really helpful aspect of using a CMS for my frequently absent students is that they have access to all the notes and activities we did in class, so even when they are out of the building (for whatever reason) they are able to keep up with the rest of the class.

Developer Notebook
As I created my Moodle course, I also kept a "developer's notebook" to keep track of the thought process and rationale involved in the course creation.
I used Google Docs to create this notebook as a means for easy collaboration between myself and my instructors. Google Docs is not only great for easy collaboration but it is also an easy tool for publishing documents, which is what we did with our developer's notebooks.
